Methodology and limitations
Funeral Cost Calc is designed for calm line-item comparison. It does not tell a family what to choose and does not replace a licensed funeral director, cemetery, attorney, or financial adviser.
Calculation method
- Split the quoted price into GPL or fee-schedule line items.
- Use official or public fee rows when a local amount is available.
- Use NFDA public medians only for national benchmark totals and label derived line items as estimates.
- Calculate a low, midpoint, and high range so users can compare a quote without implying one exact required price.
- Show the source URL and as-of date beside each table row.

Privacy and analytics
Tool analytics follow the Matrix-Forge event standard: real submissions emit tool_started, successful estimates emit tool_completed, and validation failures emit tool_failed with error_type. GPL pasted text is not stored; only source labels, row counts, path, and non-sensitive numeric counts are sent to telemetry.
